THE HIGHLAND COW

HOMESPUN HARDY AND LOVED BY ALL.

There are many reasons why people the world over jump in their cars, fly in their aeroplanes, walk on their boots and pedal on their wheels to come to the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. And so they should! It’s a stunningly beautiful place, with a real sense of culture and a character all its own.

But there is one element in particular that gives the Highlands and Islands a unique flavour – its animals! Quirky Clay is located on the majestic Isle of Skye and in summer time here you rarely travel on a road for more than 5 minutes without seeing people at the roadside with cameras clicking enthusiastically at whatever animal happens to be posing nearby. But the favourite of them all is the Highland Cow!

UNIQUE SCULPTURES

EVERY ONE A SPECIAL CHARACTER!

There is something about the Highland Cow that sets it apart for the other animals that roam the Highlands and Islands. They emanate a warm and friendly vibe and each one has its own sense of character!

We hope you’ll enjoy our sculptures of the Highland Cow.  Each one is carefully hand made here on Skye  – and each has its own subtle differences. Some have a mischievous look about them, while others may look grumpy or happy! No two are the same – just like the real thing really!

We also have other models in the pipeline!

  • Handmade on the Isle of Skye
  • Each Cow is unique with its own special character
  • Why not buy a herd?

THE THATCHED HOUSE

TRADITIONAL DWELLING OF THE HARDY HIGHLANDER.

Islanders have always lived in quirky houses! Traditional stone walled thatched houses were nicknamed “Blackhouses”, where Hebridean Islanders shared their living accommodation and peat fire with their hardy animals. Later when propriety  demand that the livestock  be housed in separate buildings – the Islanders dwellings became “Whitehouses”!

This hand crafted model of a traditional Hebridean Blackhouse takes many hours to build and is a new addition to our line up for 2016!
